We have a number of sportspersons in our country who are deaf and/or mute. That doesn’t impede their sporting ability, nor does it make them any less as players, but it does become difficult for them to communicate outside of the sport, especially if they don’t have aides who are familiar with sign language.

In Jammu and Kashmir, though, the sportspersons have a welcome support in a class 10 student, Arwa Imtiyaz Bhat.

According to a report by The Indian Express, Arwa Bhat has been assisting the teams during their tournaments and games so that she’s able to help them communicate, not just with the staff and the sporting officials, but also with their families back home. She helps close to 250 players registered under the J&K Sports Association for the Deaf.
